Ole Miss students buzzed with excitement over Spring Break plans Thursday and Oxford, Mississippi was not a favored destination. Spring break is a time to forget the books and relax with a few of your favorite friends.
Destinations such as Utah and Florida are a change from the rural countryside of Mississippi, and numerous students flock to the beaches for booze and bronzing.
A Junior, Samantha Amason, 20, looks forward to her annual Jacksonville Beach, Florida vacation where she reunites with her family and some of her closest friends.
With the beach at her fingertips and the sand on her toes, Amason hopes to better her surfing and learn how to paddle board. Activities such as shopping at the Outlet Mall, and partying at The Landing are some of Amason's favorite things to do on vacation.
"I always feel at home when I'm at the beach and can't wait to get rid of this awful ghostly color," said Amason.
For some the beach isn't a dream vacation and prefer to head north west to the mountains. The mountains offer cooler weather and a chance to see snow and some students want one last experience with it before returning to a humid and sweltering summer.
A student that is not looking forward to the looming summer is Meghan McCormick, 22. McCormick will fly to Park City, Utah for the break to snow ski and learn how to snowboard. She will be meeting her best friend from Alaska in Utah and anticipates they will make the most of their short time together.
"I don't want to just ski because that's what boring people do while they're there. I'm worried about spending too much money on alcohol if I don't ski though. I want to come back with a cute snowboarder and oh yeah, I can't forget about the Jacuzzis," said McCormick.
